People lie.
That should not be a surprise to anybody that is over lets say 5 years old, by now.And as a consequence to that obviously we are being lied , because someone has to be at the receiving end. Most of the times a lie generates another lie, and the person who is being lied might lie too before , in the same time or after knowing that she/ he has been lied.
Why do we lie?
We do it because it gets us out of trouble or embarrassing situations, it could be a revenge, it can be intentionally malicious or not intentional at all , it could aim someone in particular or told to everyone else ourselves included,it could be followed by other lies( the snowball lie) it could be cosmetized with several degrees of the truth, or it could be the truth itself minus couple of details which would probably change the whole situation if noticed, highlighted or presented. It can be a polite lie to make people feel better , which gets into white lies category but it is still a lie. It can be like a hydra , with several heads, or more traditional , like an onion , with numerous layers of truth and lies all mixed up together in what an image that we want to believe or we want to make others believe but still with a bad taste and smell and probably bringing tears to your eyes.
Who do we lie?
People. Everybody tells a lie sometimes. We lie to our boss, to our colleagues, to our friends, to our spouses, to our children, and to ourselves.Sometimes we are s good at it that we are convinced of it as being the truth, which in our eyes saves us of the guilt of saying a lie. That's a truly exquisite technique by the way, but some people are extremely natural.
What do we lie about?
Everything. Past, present, future facts, other people , and situations. You could pretty much lie about anything that is very obvious no need to get into the details.
When do you lie?
Whenever its needed, whenever its convenient, probably not in our sleep since it requires a state of alertness to cover the truth.
What makes it better?
The outcome. If the truth comes out and the outcome is positive you obviously get the benefit of the doubt and you are easily forgiven in most of the times. Obviously sometimes the expected outcome its not always perceived as positive by the one who is being lied , therefore some complications may arise.
See below.
What makes it worse?
Complications.
i Memory
When you lie you have to remember what you said so you can stick to the same version otherwise everything becomes too obvious. That is not necesarily an irreparable damage to the lie itself because there are always people who want to believe in something so badly that they can't take truth even if it is barenaked in front of their eyes and hits them with a hammer in their head.
ii Effort
You have to tell addiacent lies to cover, sustain and perpetuate the story.
iii Human variable
You have more people involved in it - therefore more effort plus memory As a rule, you should never have people that know the truth , that is always a complication per se, a very weak link in your lie, no matter how good of your friends they are or how much they swear they wont tell
iiii Records
Never keep records of your lie or the truth that you want to cover. Those somehow , sometime , somewhere can show up and ruin all your hard work, and all those tiny pieces of glass puzzle that you meticulously arranged them to create this magnificent image may be mixed up all again and each tiny piece is a tiny lie with very shard edges and bloody consequences.
In conclusion, it is a big chunk of our lives.
And yes,we should get upset when we are being lied!
And we should expect it when we are doing it ouselves to others.
And we should hope that we will be lucky and forgiven, or that the lies we discover in time is going to save us from worse.
Would I advise or promise not to lie ever again? Hell no!
With such a powerful tool just a word away we arealways going to keep it as a safe investment in the back of our minds.
The lie be with ya, my friends!
